Visiting Program

Patients who have just had ostomy surgery are often anxious and uncertain as to how they will cope with their new ostomy. Meeting with someone who has undergone the same procedure can do much to alleviate fears and anxiety.

We provide hospital visiting service, at the request of the physician, patient or enterostomal therapy nurse, either pre-operative, post-operative or both. The trained ostomy visitor is chosen to match the patient’s age, sex, and type of surgery. A visit may be arranged by calling the Visiting Chairperson at 543-0462 or by contacting the South Saskatchewan Stoma Rehabilitation Centre at 766-2271.

Sometimes a visit cannot be arranged before the patient is discharged from the hospital. In this case, the trained ostomy visitor will phone the patient at home. For phone service, please contact the Visiting Chairperson at the number above.

Note: We are in need of female colostomates, especially younger women, to visit those who have just had ostomy surgery. If you would like to be trained as a visitor, please phone the Visiting Chairperson at 543-0462.
